How much should you pay for your move? Moving services in Ottawa as long
as anywhere else in Canada for that matter can be divided in three
basic pricing structures. Flat rate, hourly rate or by the load. All
these ways of paying for the move have advantages and disadvantages for
both the moving company and the client. The best solution should fit
both.
Hourly Rates:
For local move in Ottawa and surrounding region within a 10 kilometer
radius should be billed by the hour. The truck starts to charge when it
gets to your residence and stops the clock as soon as the move is done;
additionally a traveling charge may or may not be added to the final
bill. Travel time is the transit between the office and the job site, if
your address is close enough to the Ottawa office we can sometimes
waive that fee (30 minutes) especially if you book mid month or when we
aren’t too busy. Hourly rates vary between $75 and $150 per hour
depending on the size of the truck, how many men, the nature of items to
be moved and when you need to be moved. The end of the month tends to
be more expensive as the demand increases and it becomes a first come
first serve scenario. Ottawa is booming and we often run out of manpower
and equipment at the end of the month, as mentioned earlier, moving mid
month is best.
Flat Rate:
This pricing structure is like a contract. Both the client and customer
agree to a flat fee before the execution of the move. It is based on the
estimated move execution time at the standard hourly rate. This pricing
structure is recommended for items of little or no value, both monetary
and emotional. On a flat rate move, the workers will tend to accelerate
move execution resulting in more risks being taken. This type of rate
can be good for office moves, garage sales and rubbish removal. For
valuable and expensive items, you want the movers to take their time,
even if it will cost you more per hour, it’s a wise investment to get
the job done safely.
Per load:
Similar to the flat rate structure but well suited for long distance
moves. This is how moves from Ottawa > Toronto>vancouver>
Montreal> Calgary> Edmonton> Halifax and St Johns are priced.
It is also how Canada auto transport rates are calculated.
